Beef Treatment

A company that supplies processed meat products to Burger King, McDonald’s and the U.S. school lunch program, Beef Products Inc., continues with their meat treatment approved by the government. This process was developed eight years ago and uses ammonia in the process to kill E.coli and salmonella in meats.
The ammonia is injected into the beef to remove the gastrointestinal bug from the burgers. The Department of Agriculture backed the idea which then allowed them to use fatty trimmings which were previously limited to pet food only. Even with this treatment, E. coli and salmonella pathogens are still being found in Beef Products meat, this came from government and industry records.
This now causes us to question the effectiveness of this treatment and claims challenge the U.S.D.A. It is reported by The New York Times that the USDA exempted Beef Products from routine testing of the meat for hamburgers since 2007.
